Principal’s Message

Welcome to Carroll Creek Montessori School!

You may be visiting this website just to learn more about Carroll Creek Montessori Public Charter School (CCM). Or you may be interested in applying to enroll your child in our school through the public lottery system. Either way, I am glad you clicked on this page during your visit!

As the School’s Principal, I’ve spent most of my career in education, working in all kinds of schools – early childhood, elementary, middle, and high schools. For twenty years, I worked in private schools as the Head of School. I started as the Principal at CCM in the summer of 2024. I have a Masters Degree in School Leadership from Columbia University Teachers’ College and a Montessori Administrator credential from the American Montessori Society (AMS).

Joining the CCM community as the Principal was based on my conscious decision to move from private school education to a public school education. Being part of a truly inclusive community- based school is something that’s important to me personally. I love opportunities to be in classrooms with students and teachers, to meet with parents, and to work alongside talented and dedicated teachers, staff members, and Governing Council/Board members.

It’s not possible to explain what Montessori is all about in this short letter. One fundamental Montessori concept is the conviction that children are born with vast, innate potential, including inherent capabilities that emerge and flourish when the learning environment allows them to take more responsibility for their own learning. Here is how Dr. Maria Montessori expresses this idea: “To simulate life, leaving it free, however, to unfold itself, that is the first duty of the educator.”

The best way to learn about Montessori is to see it for yourself. I invite you to visit classrooms with me any Tuesday morning by calling and scheduling a visit. CCM also hosts Parent Information Evenings twice in February.
